It may be hard to imagine, but thru a great part of Jose's work, the thought was to just repaint the front of the car, forward of the doors and just spot paint the other repaired areas. That thought ended when what were thought to be tree sap specks on the roof turned out to be some rust blisters below the paint. Hence the whole car needed preparation and paint. That brought up the question if new rubber should be installed. It was decided it made sense for the seals under the windshield and rear window where replacement later wouldn't allow for repainting under them and since so many parts were off already, why replace the old rubber?.
